Every week during the school year, Serving Our Kids provides weekend meal bags to 4,000 food-insecure children in 95 elementary and middle schools throughout the Las Vegas Valley
More than 90,000 Clark County kids don’t get enough to eat every day. School breakfast and lunch programs feed many of these kids while school is in session. But thousands of kids leave school on Friday not knowing if they will eat again before Monday.
Leadership Henderson, a nonprofit arm of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is made up of business and community leaders from within the Chamber’s membership. Each year, a new leadership Henderson class supports a worthy nonprofit organization that benefits the southern Nevada area.The class of 2024 has partnered with the Serving Our Kids Foundation, founded in 2013, to help feed thousands of hungry kids. But they’re not just donating or delivering food. They’re volunteering their business expertise and services to help build a stronger, more effective foundation. The foundation relies on donations from individuals and businesses to fund the purchasing of food for weekend meal bags. Almost all of its workers and professional staff, including its CEO Laurie Tanakaya,are volunteers.
Tanakaya challenged Leadership Henderson to help Serving Our Kids meet two critical objectives: Explode public awareness of the foundation and its mission to help fight child hunger in the community and significantly increase donations from individuals, corporations, and generous sponsors. Leadership Henderson has responded by developing a comprehensive, strategic marketing, communications, and fundraising plan designed to drive substantial growth throughout 2024 and beyond. Class members are also leveraging their relationships with valley businesses to secure in-kind and cash donations, support additional weekend meal bags, and help implement an ambitious new creative advertising and public relations campaign. The campaign’s theme, “Feeding Their Dreams,” highlights a stark reality facing food-insecure children.
While most kids dream of the future, hungry kids dream of food. Instead of looking forward to tomorrow, they are looking for their next meal. Serving Our Kids helps fulfill their dreams of having enough to eat and empowers them to dream of the future – a future without hunger, a future with unlimited possibilities. The Leadership Henderson class is made up of 32 business owners and professionals with deep experience in building and scaling businesses, including but not limited to branding and marketing, management, retail, finance, and fundraising for non-profit corporations. Together, they are helping Serving Our Kids share its mission to reach more donors and to serve many more Las Vegas Valley kids. Leadership Henderson is feeding the dreams of the foundation and thousands of hungry kids. Dreams of a healthy, secure, successful and meaningful future.
