Chartered by the Georgia General Assembly in 1785, UGA was the first university in America to be created by a state government, and the principles undergirding its charter helped lay the foundation for the American system of public higher education. If you’re reading this article, then no doubt, like me, you have eaten some of the wonderful food available, you’ve got to experience the unparalleled entertainment offered, or simply walked down the streets enjoying the vibe of Athens. It’s obvious no anybody who’s even stepped foot in this genuinely monumental town, culture, and class ooze out of the very pavement. And looking to the future, it can only get better. David Bradley, the president and CEO of the Athens area chamber of commerce, has his thumb on the very pulse of Athens. His view on the future of Athens was perfect, “the cards are on the table for an incredible economic future. We don’t have to pick up the cards and play our very best hand; we just have to start playing cards.”
