Baked Apple Fritters Recipe
Ingredients
For the fritters:
2 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp salt
2 large eggs
½ cup milk (or buttermilk)
3 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
For topping (optional):
2 Tbsp melted butter
2 Tbsp cinnamon-sugar mixture
For glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2–3 Tbsp milk
½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat oven
Set oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Mix wet ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
Combine and add apples
Stir wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined (do not overmix).
Fold in the diced apples. The batter will be thick.
Shape fritters
Drop ¼ cup mounds of batter onto the baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
Flatten slightly with the back of a spoon (they won’t spread much).
Bake
Bake 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar, if using.
Glaze
Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
Drizzle over warm fritters.
Tips for baked apple fritters version:
These will be lighter and more like little apple cakes than the fried doughnut style.
For a chewier texture closer to fried fritters, you can brush the fritters with butter halfway through baking.
Adding chopped nuts or raisins gives them a bakery-style twist.
