In the quiet expanse of Moapa, Nevada, where the desert stretches wide and the skies feel endless, Heidi Leavitt finds her sanctuary and studio. A celebrated Christian fine artist, Heidi’s work is deeply rooted in her faith and upbringing, weaving together stories of devotion, heritage, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. For nearly two decades, she has painted what she sees and feels—spiritual truths captured in brushstrokes and color.
Heidi’s journey began as a stay-at-home mother, raising six children alongside her high school sweetheart, to whom she has been married for 34 years.
While art was always a part of her life, it existed in the margins for many years—an expression of personal joy and faith amidst the responsibilities of family life. “I chose to be at home,” she shares, “and I dabbled in art on the side. But now, with our children grown and our family expanding to 12 grandchildren, I’ve been blessed with the time to pursue my passion fully.”
Her paintings are unmistakable—vivid, textured, and filled with spiritual resonance. Trained under respected artists Jon McNaughton and Dan Wilson, Heidi has honed her figurative and portrait work expertise, often blending religious and Western themes to powerful effect. “I love creating paintings that invoke a spiritual emotion in the viewer,” she says. “It is a special thing to share what is meaningful to me with others. I love art that strengthens our perspective that life is a special gift.”
This philosophy shines brightly in one of her newest and most anticipated works, Can You Hear the Music?, a 34×47 masterpiece created especially for the St. George Art Festival. The painting portrays a Paiute dancer performing a traditional Men’s Dance, where every step is a prayer and every detail in his regalia carries deep symbolism. “His dance is a prayer,” Heidi explains, “and I love the movement and spirit within this painting.”
Though her roots remain firmly planted in Moapa, Heidi’s commitment to her craft has taken her far and wide to study, exhibit, and share her art. Beyond her creative work, she is equally passionate about nurturing the talents of others, offering workshops in acrylic landscapes, oil portraits, and figurative painting. These gatherings are more than lessons in technique—they are an extension of Heidi’s philosophy: art as a form of worship, connection, and community.
Heidi says she feels so lucky, “I married my high school sweetheart and have been happily married for 34 years. I chose to be a stay-at-home mom and dabbled in art.
We raised six children and now have 12 grandchildren. Our youngest child left home two years ago, which has allowed me to really begin pursuing and promoting my art at a greater level. It has taken me on an incredible journey. I am so excited to see what lies ahead.”
With humility and grace, Heidi Leavitt continues to shape a body of work that is both timeless and deeply personal. As she looks to the future, her excitement is palpable. “It has been an incredible journey,” she says, “and I am so excited to see what lies ahead.”
