Two Artists, One Shared Vision
Dos Sirenas Glass Studio was founded in 2006 by artists Candy Armstrong and Terese Butler, shortly after the pair completed an intensive fused glass apprenticeship. Though each artist brings a distinct style to their work their creative partnership is built on collaboration, shared inspiration and a passion for continually exploring new techniques. Their friendship began years before the studio was formed. Candy and Terese first met, along with their husbands, on a scuba diving trip organized by their local dive shop. What started as a shared adventure quickly grew into a lasting bond.
United by a love for the ocean and its fascinating marine life, the couples spent the next fifteen years traveling the world on diving expeditions, photographing the vibrant ecosystems they encountered beneath the surface. As they began planning their transition from corporate careers into retirement, Candy and Terese searched for a creative outlet that could capture the color, movement, and wonder they had experienced underwater. They found it in fused glass.
The name of their studio, Dos Sirenas, meaning “Two Mermaids,” reflects both their love of the sea and the spirit of creativity that guides their work. Their mermaid-tail logo serves as a reminder of the ocean adventures that inspired their partnership and continue to influence many of their designs. After relocating to Tucson in 2007, the artists discovered an entirely new source of inspiration. The Sonoran Desert introduced fresh colors, textures, and wildlife that now appear alongside their ocean-inspired pieces, creating a unique fusion of sea and desert imagery.
