From free outdoor concerts and Saturday night films under the stars to kid-friendly mornings and wellness weekends, Heritage Square has become the heartbeat of summer. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, July and August in the Square offer something unforgettable for everyone.

Saturday Nights Under the Stars

Movies on the Square

July in Downtown Flagstaff wouldn’t be complete without a blanket and a movie beneath the stars. Every Saturday, Heritage Square transforms into a cinematic hub where family-friendly films meet community joy.

Live Music kicks off at 5:00 PM, and as dusk settles in, the screen lights up with summer blockbusters and timeless favorites.

This year’s July lineup brings animated charm and magical tales:

July 5: Tangled – a perfect post-Fourth of July unwind.

July 12: Space Jam: A New Legacy, featuring a special Astrojacks Night with appearances from NAU’s beloved athletics team.

July 19: Pixar’s emotional adventure Up.

July 26: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, complete with “The Sorcerer’s Search,” an interactive experience for young wizards and grown-up fans alike.

These evenings aren’t just movie nights; they’re memory-making rituals in the heart of the city.

Music, All Month Long

The rhythms of July and August reverberate from Heritage Square each week thanks to Music on the Square, Downtown Flagstaff’s seasonal concert series. The square hums with acoustic guitars, soulful vocals, and the casual energy of local artists performing under open skies.

Catch live Music every:

Thursday evening (Emerging Artist Thursdays, 5–7 PM)

Friday night (Summer Concert Series, 6–8 PM)

Saturday pre-movie sessions

Sunday afternoons (12–2 PM, great for lunch picnics)

Whether you’re swaying to indie tunes, jazz riffs, or folk ballads, each setlist feels like a love letter to the region’s creative spirit.

Wellness in the Square: Yoga, Spin & Puppy Love

If your idea of summer involves balance, mind, body, and spirit, Flagstaff has your mat and bike waiting.

Spin on the Square brings pedal-powered adrenaline every Sunday morning through August 31 at 9:00 AM. Hosted by The Box Studio, these 45-minute rides combine fitness, Music, and sunshine, all in the urban oasis of Heritage Square. Whether you’re a seasoned spinner or just curious, the energy is contagious.

Looking to slow down instead? Try Yoga on the Lawn, led by Northern Arizona Yoga Center, on the first three Saturdays of each month. These 9:00 AM classes on the County Courthouse Lawn are as grounding as they are scenic. On the final Saturday of each month, The Foundry hosts sessions at Heritage Square, courtesy of The Foundry, where sessions are free and welcoming to all.

And don’t miss the Paws & Breathe: Puppy Yoga Fundraiser on August 23, a heartwarming twist where downward dog meets adoptable pups, all supporting local shelters.

Tuesday Mornings for the Littlest Locals: Kids Squared

For families with young children, Kids Squared is one of Flagstaff’s most delightful summer staples. Every Tuesday through July 29, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Heritage Square becomes a hub of hands-on learning and laughter for kids aged 4–9.

Highlights for the upcoming month include:

July 8: Nature fun with Willow Bend Environmental.

July 15 & 29: Creative crafting with Wee Scotty Sews.

July 22: Real-life heroes from the Flagstaff Fire Department make a return appearance.

Free and drop-in friendly, Kids Squared is a chance for kids to explore and parents to soak in the joy of a vibrant, interactive downtown.

Art After Hours: First Friday ArtWalks

As daylight lingers later, Downtown Flagstaff keeps its doors open for art lovers on the First Friday of every month, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM; galleries, cafés, and shops in and around Heritage Square offer curated exhibits, local performances, pop-up installations, and refreshments.

July and August ArtWalks showcase a diverse range of artists, including student printmakers, plein air painters, and live muralists. If you’re a visitor, this is the night to experience Flagstaff’s creative pulse. And if you’re a local, it’s your monthly reminder of why you love this town.

Whether you’re laying back for a Saturday movie, flowing through a yoga pose as the breeze rolls in, or dancing with your toddler to a local band, Flagstaff this July and August is alive. And it’s all free, under the sky, and right in the Square.
