The best aspect of Kinga Czerska’s paintings is that they feel like a reflection of the natural world. So many of them are deeply and intrinsically inspired by the Colorado forests, the glow of light through trees, the rhythm of trunks and branches, the softness of a landscape as it’s filtered through memory. But the longer you look at her work, the more it begins to shift. Beneath the visual beauty is a deeper meditation on connection, resilience, and the hidden systems that quietly shape life.<\/span><\/p>

For Czerska, the forest is a living structure, a map of relationships, and a reminder that what matters most is often invisible. Her Aspen series was inspired by one of nature’s most extraordinary phenomena: what appears to be a grove of individual trees is often a single living organism, connected through an extensive underground root system. That unseen network became both the foundation of the series and a powerful metaphor for human life. Born in Krak\u00f3w, Poland, Czerska immigrated to the United States as a child. She later earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, where she also studied biomedical engineering and fine art. That unusual combination continues to shape the way she sees. Her work carries the curiosity of an engineer, the sensitivity of an artist, and the sensibilities of architecture and good ol ‘ fashioned Mother Nature<\/span><\/p>

Kinga says she has long been drawn to systems: patterns, structures, movement, rhythm, and many more. Early in her career, she explored geometric abstraction and shifting spatial relationships, including a 400-foot public commission for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in New York.<\/span><\/p>

Over time, extended experiences in the mountains and wilderness brought her attention more fully toward the subtle intelligence of natural systems. That evolution can be felt in the works of her Aspen series. Rather than documenting the landscape, Czerska seeks to reveal what she calls its hidden architecture. Her paintings go far beyond the trees they depict. The visible world becomes an entry point into the depth of her work. Her technique is fascinating; working primarily on wood panels, the paintings begin with numerous luminous translucent layers before each forest is slowly constructed tree by tree with a 1 mm brush. At that stage, every tree is individually considered, its width, rhythm, spacing, and relationship to the others, transforming the forest into an architecture of connection.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The surfaces feel luminous and atmospheric, allowing light to move through the work. This layering gives the paintings a meditative quality. They reward time, and that sense of gradual revelation is essential to her work. Czerska is not interested in quick impressions. She asks the viewer to slow down and look closely, to experience the painting the way one might experience a forest: by paying attention to rhythm, silence, repetition, and subtle change. Her compositions suggest that beauty is not only found in what rises above the ground, but also in the invisible forces that allow it to stand.<\/span><\/p>

Although rooted in the forests of Colorado, Czerska’s work reaches toward something universal. The aspen grove becomes a way to think about human communities, emotional resilience, and our relationship with the natural world. Her paintings remind us that no life exists entirely alone. Czerska’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally through galleries, art fairs, public commissions, and artist residencies, including Art Omi and the International Studio & Curatorial Program in New York. Her paintings are held in private collections across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Caribbean.<\/span><\/p>

Today, she lives and works in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where the surrounding landscape continues to inform her exploration of pattern, place, and connection. Through her art, Kinga Czerska asks us to see the forest differently. Not as a collection of separate trees, but as a living network. Not as scenery, but as structure.
